The Program

Competent nurses are in great demand for the Finnish labour industry. To guarantee the availability of competent nurses, Arcada UAS is presenting a TopUp nursing programme that provides an ethical, price effective and ecological path for foreign educated nurses to fulfil Finnish provisions. Learners are granted a Bachelor of Healthcare Degree (Nursing) upon completion of their TopUp program. This program meets EU Nursing provisions. 


The programme is aimed at up-skilling foreign educated nurses who have - 

  • a bachelor's degree in Nursing completed outside of Finland,
  • preferably several years of work experience as a nurse (2 years plus are preferred) and
  • intermediate skills in Finnish (minimum A2 level).


Good English language skills:

  • Bachelor or Master studies in English, which includes a thesis written in English
  • IELTS Academic, minimum overall score 6,0
  • TOEFL® iBT, minimum score 79
  • Pearson, minimum score 51
  • Cambridge, B2 First, minimum score 170
  • OET, (Occupational English Test) minimum C
  • Certificates or diplomas from verified educational providers that can be verified by Arcada

Course Outline

General outline of studies include modules covering:

  • Finnish Nursing Competencies
  • Finnish Nursing Practice
  • Practical training (completed in Finland)


Course includes both online and on-campus lectures, individual reading assignments, workshops, case-based exercises, simulations.

The nursing programme at Arcada is the best in the country in a comparison between Finnish universities of applied sciences. This is according to the AVOP survey 2023, a feedback survey for UAS students in the final stage of their studies.

Arcada provides nursing education in both Swedish and English. According to the 2023 survey, the average score for the two nursing programmes is 5.98, the highest in Finland. The national average stands at 5.27.
